Users say Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 AI refuses to help clone or reverse-engineer games

Tom's Hardware reports that Anthropic's Opus 5.5 model, and possibly its Claude Code tool, are blocking attempts to recreate or clone video games. Mashable adds that Claude has quietly started refusing some modding, decompiling and reverse-engineering of game code. Users also say it blocks ordinary troubleshooting that isn't malicious, such as reading a Windows crash dump. An X user shared a rule telling the model not to build "a recreation of a specific existing game", but nobody has confirmed that this is the real text. Anthropic has made no official statement.

Affects you: Developers who use Claude for debugging or reverse-engineering may get more refusals. Until Anthropic explains the rules, it is unclear what is in scope.
