Memory chip maker SK Hynix expects shortages to last until at least 2030

Korean memory maker SK Hynix predicts memory shortages will continue until at least 2030, The Register reports. It has long-term deals with 14 major buyers for more than half of its output in 2027 and 2028. The Wall Street Journal reports it plans to return more than $22 billion in dividends and about $15 billion in share buybacks, on top of a roughly $30 billion buyback finished in August. The company said third-quarter revenue was 104.6 trillion won, with an 80% operating margin.

Affects you: If the forecast holds, memory stays expensive, which has already pushed up prices of PCs and other devices. The shortage outlook is the company's own forecast.
